2 Girlz Cypher - The girlz cypher group works with poets and rappers who help each other develop their skills as artists and explore connections between their art and the issues they face in their communities. They learn from master artists and then lead workshops for other youth and perform their works at various events.
3 Hip Hop Elements Workshops - Project HIP-HOP brings in artists to teach workshops in the four major elements of hip hop ? Graffiti, Breakdancing, DJing and MCing. Workshops also extend to other forms of dance, visual arts and poetry that are connected to hip hop (spoken word, African dance, etc.).
4 Hip Hop Critique Curriculum - The curriculm analyzes the history and current reality of hip hop. Activities promote critical thinking and focus on topics like the evolution of radio play lists and the economics of record contracts. When conneted to the Elements Workshops, these help young people to not only produce art, but to think about its role in society.
5 Rhythmic Reflectionz - During the winter Project HIP-HOP partners with Khan Elite Inc. to host workshops that bring master poets and MCs to work with young people. This project helps teens to write poetry in a way that promotes literacy and writing skills.
6 Collaboration w/ Critical Breakdown - For the past 5 years Project HIP-HOP has collaborating with Critical Breakdown on the monthly open mics and Youth Truth Workshops. In the past year the organizations have worked together more closely to align programming and this summer co-ran a summer program.
